Tornjak is very, very rare breed in the world. Twenty years ago saved from extinction. We are currently working to revitalize this beautiful breed that has a special character. Once people meet this breed realize its uniqueness and then practically don't want to live without it. Tornjak is a very old breed that has a long lifetime, this breed doesn't have health problems which have been preserved from the old method of breeding without crossing and mixing (how they created the modern breed).
In the last ten years we are very active in breeding tornjaks, from the current 26 tornjaks in the UK from our kennel is 21. With our work and support we gained the trust of the people, we have become great friends with most of the owners, we strive to the best and fastest way to help in any situation. Photos show parents of puppies we represent as well as other adult tornjaks of our ownership or breeding (to give you as clearly as possible view of the breed). The most important is that our dogs go to the stable and good families who will devote their will and time to these dogs and provide them a nice life. All our dogs have a pedigree FCI, in our breeding dogs are entering after strict selection and they all have required medical check required for breeding.
Tornjak is very interesting breed which is suitable for most of people. It is a breed of immense love towards its children (several little neighbors have walked with help of "Mila" holding on to her fur). They are very tolerant dogs. They are used as therapeutic dogs as well. They are very appreciated as guardians of home. It is a breed which does not aquire much care (they need to be brushed only once a week). With their family they like to go on trips (they like to walk, swim, climb, run next to bycicles), but if you are not in possibility to walk with them, they wouldn't miss it because they are satisfied with their little yard and small walk in the neighborhood. It's a breed that has no medical difficulities and they have really long lifetime ( wich is not the case with other big breeds).

Tornjak is also called a "Croatian mountain dog" who keeps an eye on the flock or they can have pure pet role.
From 1970's tornjaks faced the threat of extinction. Saving proces started and in 1979. in Zagreb (Croatia), the first Tornjak Breeding Commission was established and official breeding process has started under the patronage of Croatian Kennel Association (HKS).
Good sides of tornjak: They are calm animals, good-natured and first of all, steadily and balanced dogs that like order and harmony. They love their family members, they are tolerant to strangers if a dog is properly socialized and they are also friendly to a unknown child. They are not aggressive and they won't attack people. They are only protective in way to warn a people, not to harm.
Bad sides of tornjak: they are big, powerful, self-confident and independent dogs that become curious and defensive if something unusual happens on their territory and offensive too, if situation demands such a reaction. Because of that characteristic, they are considered as the best choice to protect livestock with their barking. They develop protective instinct and it will happen spontaneously with maturing. Tornjak bark a lot and they will react on every noise that is unusual near the area that they protect. They warn with barking.
Tornjak is a strong and large dog. Bones are neither light nor massive or heavy, something in between. Size is arround 70 cm tall for male, 60 - 65 cm for females. the Tornjak is a long coated dog and has short hair over the face and legs. They are long-hair dogs. They are also working dogs. They can come in few colors: they have white base and it is covered more or less with portions in other colour(s). It can be dark colour all over the body (mantle) with white only around neck, on head and legs; or almost entirely white animal with few marking, but always with spots on legs and head (mask) and dark tufts in long white coat. Tornjak can't be one colored, it has to have either black, tan or brown spots on the head, tail and back.
Tornjak is accepted by FCI and AKC.
